A Bookstore For Independent and Self-Published Authors Only

Frustrated by the lack of opportunity to display and sell her children’s books, Patti Brassard Jefferson, an award-winning independent author and illustrator, decided to change the rules of the game.
This summer she opened P.J. Boox, described by Publishers Weekly as the “first bookstore dedicated to self-published authors.”
P.J. Boox only sells books published by independent and self-published authors.
The process is simple. Authors pay a one-time set-up fee of $18, and rent shelf space for four months for $80. P.J. Boox sells the author’s books both in the store and online. Authors receive 98% of the sale price on in-store sales and 80% of online sales and can check sales and inventory of their books at any time online.
"Hopefully it will continue to grow as a business,” said the Selfpubauthors.com website, “and maybe start off a trend of locally-owned bookstores giving space for indie novelists of all types."
Jefferson, with whom we had the opportunity to talk at the Miami Book Fair International, believes that will happen. We hope so! It’s a business model that fits the changing world of publishing.
